TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team will be competing in the 2006 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship, Nov. 3-5, in Coral Springs, Florida.  This will be the last fall tournament for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats are coming to the tournament after competing in the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown Oct. 30-Nov. 1, where they finished in a tie for eighth.  Practice rounds for the tournament begin today.

Junior Alison Walshe is expected to lead the way for the Wildcats, after posting her third top-5 finish during the fall season at the Las Vegas Showdown.

The tournament is co-sponsored by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCS) and the Central Florida Sports Commission, as well as Hooters of America, Inc.  The brackets for this year’s tournament were released on Oct. 18, 2006.

The 16 team invitation-only tournament also includes: Georgia, Nebraska, Purdue, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, SMU, Wake Forest, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Michigan State, Florida State, Florida, Duke, and South Carolina.

The Wildcats received the number six seed and play-off against 11th-seeded Michigan State in the first round.  Seeding was based on the Fall 2006 results through Oct. 17.  The Wildcats will then face either Auburn University or the University of Alabama, depending on the outcome of both of those match-ups.

First Round Match-ups:

#1 Georgia vs. #16 Nebraska

#8 Purdue vs. #9 Arkansas

#4 Vanderbilt vs. #13 SMU

#5 Wake Forest vs. #12 LSU

#3 Auburn vs. #14 Alabama

#6 ARIZONA vs. #11 Michigan State

#7 Florida State vs. #10 Florida

#2 Duke vs. #15 South Carolina

Arizona players expected to compete are: Walshe, Amanda Wilson, Mary Jacobs, Rachel Gavin, and Adriana Zwanck.
