OJAI, Calif. - The Arizona women's tennis team completed the third day of competition at the Pac-10 Tournament in Ojai, Calif., in conjunction with the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament. The Wildcats advanced a doubles team into the final round of the main draw and the invitational draw.
In singles action, sophomore Maja Mlakar was defeated in the semifinal round of the main draw by Cal's Raquel Kops-Jones, 6-0, 6-4. Graduate student Emilie Scribot also fell in the semifinals to Oregon's Daria Panova, 7-6, 6-1.
In the first round of the singles back draw, junior Debbie Larocque defeated Washington's Claire Carter, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Dianne Hollands won her match versus Washington State's Lorena Arias, 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Kristy Randono fell to Washington State's Zorana Roganovic, 6-2, 6-2, and Washington's Andrea Coulter defeated freshman Kelly Duncan, 6-0, 6-0.
The Cats saw continued success in doubles play, in which Arizona's duo of Mlakar and Scribot defeated Washington's Claire Carter and Darija Klaic in the semifinal of the main draw, 8-3. Mlakar and Scribot will face Cal's Christina Fusano and Raquel Kops-Jones in Sunday's final round. In the invitational doubles draw, Arizona's team of Hollands and sophomore Kelly Perry defeated Oregon's Ester Bak and Anna Leksinska, 8-2. Hollands and Perry will face off against USC's Bernaditte Bayano and Melissa Esmero in the final round.
Arizona will complete play at the Pac-10 Tournament Sunday, with the final rounds in all singles and doubles draws.
