Entering her second year on the Wildcat staff, Caires is moving into the assistant coach position vacated by Sam Dixon, whose hiring as recruiting coordinator for Clemson women's basketball was also announced.
Caires will take on the duty of assisting Bonvicini and associate head coach Denise Dove in Arizona's recruiting efforts, in addition to her current duties of floor work with the Wildcat guards and scouting.
"Karen has a tremendous wealth of experience," said Bonvicini, who is beginning her ninth year at the helm of the Wildcat program. "She has great people skills, and she's one of the brightest young coaches in America. She was very instrumental in the success of our young team last year."
"I'm really looking forward to continuing the pursuit of our program's goals," said Caires. "I'm also very excited about being back in the role of a recruiter and going out there as a representative of the University of Arizona."
Caires came to Arizona in 1998 following a one-year stint as assistant coach at Oregon State. Prior to that, she spent three years on the staff at Vermont, after working for six years at the high school and junior college levels.
Caires helped the Wildcat staff guide an inexperienced 1999 Arizona team to an 18-11 overall record and a third-straight NCAA tournament appearance.
