TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona women’s soccer team extended its winning streak to four games with 2-1 overtime victory over the Montana Grizzlies. Sophomore Sally Thurner scored at the 99:04 mark to end the game and give the Wildcats the win.

Arizona spent most of the game on the attack out shooting Montana 26 to 10. The Wildcats were not able to advantage of their many opportunities, only scoring one goal in the first half.

“These are the games we need to improve on,” said Head Coach Dan Tobias. “We haven’t come close to our best game yet.”

Sophomore London King gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead 15:23 mark. Jacqueline Broussard began the attack and then passed the ball to Gianna DeSaverio. DeSaverio was then able to draw the goalie out and passed the ball to the front of the goal and King then touched it in for her fourth goal of the season.

Montana’s Kristyn Shapka evened the game in the second half with her goal at the 79:26 mark. Mahlleace Tomsin’s corner kick was mishandled by Chelsea McIntyre and in the ensuing scramble Shapka was able to score.

In overtime, Broussard fed Thurner who then took a shot from the right side of the box and scored. This was Thurner’s second goal of the season.

“Sally with her second goal of the season embodies everything a student-athlete should be,” commented Tobias. “She was a walk on last year and she has done a tremendous job for us.”

McIntyre had five saves in the game while the team recorded one.

Arizona, which improved to 6-2-0 on the season, will be in action again on Friday, Sept. 22 when it hosts Portland at 4:30 p.m. The game will be televised live by FSN Arizona.
