Shooting and dunk contests, team scrimmage planned

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s and women’s basketball teams will open practice for the 2006-07 season with another installment of McKale Madness.  The festivities in McKale Center begin Friday, Oct. 13, with free admission beginning at 7 p.m. PDT.  Doors open at 6 p.m.

Fans unable to attend McKale Madness in person can watch it live online at
www.arizonaathletics.com through All-Access, Arizona Athletics' premium online multimedia service.

In addition to the first official practice for the Wildcat men, fans will be treated to an evening of non-stop entertainment, including t-shirt and poster give-a-ways, a player autograph session and an address from head coach Lute Olson.

Alltel is sponsoring the “Drop the ROCK $10,000 Shot” contest in which a randomly selected contestant will have the opportunity to win $10,000 by making a half-court shot.

Following player introductions, there will be a shooting contest, featuring both UA men’s and women’s team members, and a dunk contest, followed by a 20-minute scrimmage by the men’s basketball team

Parking for the event will be free to the general public in the Cherry Ave. garage and in all university lots surrounding McKale Center.

The Arizona men return 11 squadmembers from last season’s 20-13 club that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  The Arizona women add five newcomers, including two sets of twins.
