Seattle, WA. - Wildcat freshman Maja Mlakar and sophomore Debbie Larocque reeled off two convincing victories in doubles play on Saturday to move into the semifinals at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships. The duo's first victory of the day came against the No. 8-ranked and top-seeded team of UCLA's Sara Walker and Petya Marinova, 8-4. Mlakar and Larocque then dominated California's Nicole Havlicek and Catherine Lynch, winning 8-1.
In other doubles action Saturday, Arizona senior Brooke Taylor and freshman Marie-Pier Pouliot defeated Stanford's Kara Guzman and Lizzy Bennett in the first round, 9-7. Taylor and Pouliot were tripped up in their semifinal match against Washington's Ilona Kordonskaya and Erin Boisclair, 9-7.
In singles play Saturday, Mlakar and Dianne Hollands fell short in their bids to make it to Sunday's finals. Mlakar was edged by USC's Jewel Peterson, 7-5, 6-3. USC's Luana Magnani earned a victory over Hollands by default.
UA's Pouliot reached the semifinals of consolation bracket #3 before dropping a three-game match to Oregon's Courtney Nagle, 6-7(2), 7-6(2), 6-4. Pouliot outlasted Stanford's Kara Guzman in the consolation quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
