TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf team and head coach Laura Ianello have announced the signing of Andrea Vilarasau to a National Letter of Intent. A native of Barcelona, Spain, she will join the Wildcats as a freshman in the fall.
"We are very excited about Andrea playing for the Wildcats," Ianello said. "Her international resume is impressive and I look for her to be a tough competitor on the team."
Vilarasau picked up a 14th-place finish at the 2011 Spanish National Championship in May. She shot rounds of 74, 78, 77 and 74. At the 2010 Banesto Tour Sant Cugat, she shot career-low rounds of 63 and 67, finishing tied for first after losing the playoff. In 2011, she collected wins at the Barcelona Open Championship (75-76-71) and at the Grand Prix Des Landes - Hossegor (67-69-73-72).
In the last two seasons, she has collected 10 top-10 finishes. Vilarasau also won a bronze medal with the Spanish team at the 2011 European Girls Team Championship and was a member of the champion Catalan team at the Spanish Junior Interegional in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Vilarasau will join freshman Paige Spiranac, also an NLI student-athlete, as the two new members of the Arizona women's golf program.
