Wildcat guard could be eligible on Dec. 17

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona men’s basketball player Jawann McClellan is not eligible to compete for the fall semester.

McClellan, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound sophomore guard from Houston, Texas, will miss the Wildcats’ first seven games of the season.  If he meets eligibility requirements during the fall semester, he could regain his eligibility for Arizona’s Dec. 17 game at Utah.

“It’s unfortunate that I can’t play,” said McClellan, “but I’m working hard to get myself eligible and get back on the court.”

McClellan averaged 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game in 2004-05.  He shot 46.8 percent from the field and was the only freshman to appear in all 37 contests.

Arizona returns 10 squadmen from last season’s 30-7 club that advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Chicago Regional final.  Arizona opens the 2005-06 season on Nov. 21 against Kansas at the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
