TUCSON, Ariz. ?C The University of Arizona menˇ?s golf team opens the 2007-08 season Saturday at the Purdue/Midwest Shootout in West Lafayette, Ind.

The 16-team event, which is hosted by Purdue University, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, a par-72, 7,467-yard layout. The one-day event features 36 holes of continuous play with a 9 a.m. EDT shotgun start.

In addition to Arizona, the field includes Bowling Green, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, George Mason, IUPUI, Kent State, Loyola, Michigan, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Rice, SMU, Western Illinois and host Purdue.

The following players are scheduled to compete for Arizona: Creighton Honeck, Tyler Neal, Roberto Galletti, Tarquin MacManus, and Andrew Kelly. Galletti, MacManus and Kelly each will be making their collegiate debut on Saturday.

Arizona returns eight letterwinners from last seasonˇ?s squad that reached the NCAA Championships for the 21st consecutive season. The Wildcats posted six top-five finishes in 15 team events last year. Arizona enters the season ranked 25th nationally by Golf Week magazine.
