TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona football team completed practice at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium on Wednesday evening in preparation for Saturday’s game against No. 10 USC. Below is a brief transcript of head coach Rich Rodriguez’s comments following practice.

On the play of Jourdon Grandon:

“He has been solid. I think he has been better in some games more than others. He is a real competitive guy that has taken a lot of reps. There were a couple games where we would’ve liked for him to play a little better but he hasn’t had a lot of experience either. He has been pretty solid.”

On the strengths of Reggie Gilbert:

“He is a strong guy. Reggie has been battling injuries and I don’t think he has been 100 percent all year, but he is a strong guy that has good athletic ability. When he is healthy he has been one of our better pass rushers.”

On the USC running game:

“They had good running backs before Silas Redd got there. When you can get one of the best running backs in the country to transfer in – that’s a pretty good deal for them. They are big up front and they have a couple of NFL guys on their offensive line. I think Redd is a sure fire NFL guy as well.”

On the importance of the defensive line against USC:

“It’s going to be more than just those three guys up front. If we are going to get pressure we are going to need to do it with more than three for sure. If we can get pressure with just three, I’ll be really happy because we haven’t been able to do that yet. You can try to disguise and mix things up but you are talking about a quarterback that is as smart as anybody in college football.”

The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, October 27 when they host No. 10 USC at 12:30 p.m. inside Arizona Stadium. The contest will air regionally on ABC and on ESPN2 in all other areas.
