TUCSON -- The Arizona softball team will open its seven-game Fall Ball slate with a tilt against Yavapai College at 2 p.m. this Sunday.
The Cats are coming off a 46-17 record and their 21st appearance in the Women's College World Series in the last 22 years. Arizona brings back seven starters from last year's squad - a team that hit an NCAA record 134 home runs.
Yavapai won its first NJCAA Division I Softball Championship in June under the tutelage of Stacy Iveson, a UA letterwinner. The former Wildcat and her staff earned the NFCA NJCAA Division I Coaching Staff of the Year award after the Roughriders finished the season at 60-8, in only her second year at the helm of the Yavapai program.
The team also placed five players on the 2009 NFCA Junior College All-American teams, including current pitcher Audrey Workman (second team).
Kenzie Fowler will most likely get the start on Sunday in her first collegiate action.
Next weekend UA will host the annual Arizona Fall Classic, with the Cats taking on five other teams in attendance.
All Fall Ball games are free and open to the public.
