TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Nic Wise has accepted an invitation to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, April 7-10, 2010, in Portsmouth, Va.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.) is the only postseason event for college seniors prior to the NBA Pre-Draft Camp, and is now the only event to include actual game competition. Wise was one of 64 college seniors invited to attend.
Wise, a 5-foot-10, 177-pound, senior guard from Houston, Texas, is averaging 16.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 121 appearances this year. He shoots 40.6 percent (95-of-234) from the field, including 38.0 percent (35-of-92) from behind the arc, to go with 90.2 percent (110-of-122) from the free throw line.
Wise ranks eighth among Pac-10 players in scoring, seventh in assists, sixth in assist:turnover ratio (1.6) and third in steals (1.9). To date, he has scored in double figures 16 times, while collected five or more rebounds and assists six and seven times, respectively. Wise equaled a career high Jan. 31 with 30 points in a win over California.
Now in its 58th year, all participants are guaranteed to play three games as part of the showcase for both NBA and international scouts during the four-day event. Currently, there are 57 players on NBA rosters with P.I.T. experience.
Arizona (12-9, 6-3 Pac-10) will next be in action on Thursday, Feb. 4, when the Wildcats travel to Seattle to take on the University of Washington. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PST and can be seen nationally on FOX Sports Net.
