TUCSON -- The university's C.A.T.S. Academics staff has named six Wildcats as winners of Student-Athlete of the Month honors for November-December.
They are: basketball freshman Jerryd Bayless, soccer freshman Alexandra Davis, softball freshman Corinna Gonzales, track freshman Abdi Hassan, junior thrower Zack Loyd and junior thrower Nicole Loyd. (Pictured below, left to right, top to bottom.)
C.A.T.S. and the department of Intercollegiate Athletics recognized the student-athletes for demonstrating the greatest commitment to academic success through diligence and performance in the classroom.
"It is not an easy accomplishment for a student-athlete to balance his or her tasks at these levels of education and competition," athletics director Jim Livengood said.
"Success on the courts and fields is one thing; success as a college student in the classroom is another. These young men and women have to summon plenty of grit and determination to become accomplished student-athletes -- two words, two endeavors. "We never tire of celebrating such performances," Livengood said.
