TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The Arizona softball program will welcome back its former players on Saturday, Feb. 4 for the Alumni Game.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, with several pre-game festivities, including recognizing the 10-year reunion of the 1996 national championship squad.

“This is a chance to keep the tradition in our program active.  It’s important for any great program that is built on tradition to thank its players that helped make it what it is,” head coach Mike Candrea said.  “This is a chance to honor some wonderful ladies from the ’96 team, as well as to bridge the gap between the past and present in Arizona softball.

“It’s important for our current student-athletes to meet the former players, and it is a great event to see all of the families of our former players,” Candrea continued.  “We say that this program is like a family and once you’re a Wildcat, you’re always a Wildcat.  This is a great chance to show that.”

Although no current student-athletes will compete in the game, former players including All-Americans Lauren Bauer, Nancy Evans, Julie Jones, Alison Johnsen-McCutcheon, Becky Lemke-Blatnick, Leneah Manuma, Toni Mascarenas and Mackenzie Vandergeest are scheduled to play.  See the list below for a complete list of former players scheduled to appear.

Prior to the game, there will be a home run hitting contest at 12:30 p.m., and the 1996 squad will be honored at 12:50 p.m.  Admission to the Alumni Game is free.
