Oja Paces Cats at Pac-12s

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona Wildcat men's golf team sits in tenth place after the first thirty-six holes of the 2012 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships in Corvallis, Ore. The Cats carded a 374 and a 372 for a total of 746 (+26), and are seven strokes ahead of rival Arizona State (753/+33). UCLA, the only team to finish the day under par, currently sits in a 3-stroke lead for first place at one-under.

Following UCLA, who scored with a two-round score of 719, Oregon is in second place with a total of 722 (+2). Rounding out the top three is California with a total of 722 (+4). Individually, Oregon's Eugene Wong finished the day with a one-stroke lead at 137 (-7). Stanford's Andrew Yun finished with a 148 (-6), and UCLA's Patrick Cantlay finished the day in third place with a total of 139 (-5).

For Arizona, sophomore Erik Oja paced the squad with a two-round score of 145 (+1) to tie for fifteenth place. Oja has score at par 28 times in the opening day, which ranks third in the field of competition. Freshman Tucker Wadkins followed one-stroke behind his teammate with two rounds of 73 for a 146 (+2) total for a tie for 21st place. Junior Juan Pablo Hernandezfinished one stroke behind Wadkins with a 147 (+3) for a tie for 28th place.

Eighteen more holes will be contested Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. PT. The 2012 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships are being contested at the Trysting Tree Golf Club, a par-72, 7,030-yard course.
