Arizona Head Coach Lute Olson Quotes

"It was a very good, competitive game. Both teams played very hard, but they were just more physical than we were. I think (Emeka) Okafor was the difference in the game. Every time we got an opportunity to get to the basket, he was there. They were difficult to score on inside, and if we did penetrate, Okafor was putting balls back at us. He changed the total complexion of the game, and he was the most effective player out on the court."

"We had our chances. We were in a position to win the game, but we did not make good decisions down the stretch. Now, the coaches are most concerned about what we can do to get them to play every possession right from the beginning. This is very frustrating for the coaching staff. We have tried to explain that every possession counts right from the beginning, but we are having a horrible time trying to get that across to the players."

"We competed hard on the glass in the second half. They are a very physical team, and they play very aggressively. They did a good job of keeping the ball out of Jason's (Gardner) hands late in the game. We had problems containing their penetration. Their guards are very quick, and it was hard to keep them out of the lane."

"We need to get a whole lot tougher, especially our frontline players. We need to play the first 10 minutes of every game like we played against USC. We cannot afford to continue to get ourselves into a hole every time. We have to get after every team right from the tip."

"The tougher part of the schedule is going to happen now. We play the four California schools on the road, and we are going to have our hands full. We need to make our move."

Arizona Player Quotes

Junior Jason Gardner:
"We have to start coming to play in the first half. We have to learn to put teams away. The main thing when we were up by six points was that we needed to melt the clock, but we started to force things. I don't know what happened at the end."

"None of our guys are going to think about a possible four-game losing streak. We just need to play harder so we can come out on top."

"We had a chance to win. We had some bad moves and they had some good moves."

"We come out too relaxed in the first half. Coach Olson said that we need to play harder and get out there to be ready."

"Our defense was good in the second half. We gave them some problems, but we need to have a good first half. They just had some good looks."

Junior Luke Walton:
"When we play like a team, we all play really well. We just needed to stay up on defense. They moved the ball and had some good shots and they hit those good shots."

"We all know that if we are not up on our offense, then we are going to lose."

"We played well against USC and UCLA, but just have to get to that next step."

Freshman Channing Frye:
"We really left it out on the court today and I'm glad about that. I just don't like losing. They are a good team. But I did make some freshman mistakes."

"I thought we had the game a lot of times, but we didn't quit or stop battling."

"Any time you lose one like we did to ASU and then come back and today and lose again, you just step back and reevaluate everything. It was very physical. It was a fun game, but it will be more fun in a week when it doesn't hurt as much. They are a good team, one of the best team we've played all year.'

"I think everyone is tired because we are such a young team with so many freshmen. But you'd rather be tired later than just sitting at home. This is still new to me, I'm getting used to playing all these games. Everyone's got to suck it up and get mentally tougher, especially myself."

"They played every possession like it was their last. They wanted it more and at the end, they got the spin of the ball and they got the win. You have to come out and make strides, we're trying to get better."

Freshman Salim Stoudamire:
"Basically, we have to get up and get some good shots. They (Connecticut) were a tougher team. We didn't go out and play as the aggressor."

"We celebrated early in overtime and we didn't play a good first half. We just haven't been able to figure it out yet."
