The 22nd-ranked Arizona women’s soccer team (8-4-3 overall, 3-1-1 Pac-10) tied No. 10 California (10-2-2 overall, 3-0-1 Pac-10), 0-0.

The first shot of the game came from California at 10:14 from Chioma Igwe. Arizona’s first shot was in the 13th minute by senior Jennifer Klein. The Wildcats posted two shots in the first half, while the Golden Bears had five.

The biggest chance in the second half game in the 65th minute when California forward Liz Eisenberg had a breakaway that was stopped by Wildcat defender Savanah Levake. Less than five minutes later, sophomore goalkeeper McCall Smith made a diving save to stop a shot from California’s Julia Schnugg.

After a scoreless regulation, the two teams battled through two scoreless overtimes.

Smith and California goalkeeper Ashley Sulprizio each earned a shutout. Smith posted 10 saves, while Sulprizio posted five.

Arizona head coach Dan Tobias did not coach in the game due to his red card in the Washington State game on Oct. 16. Assistant coach Harold Warren acted as the head coach for the game.

“This game had a lot of pace to it,” Warren said. “I thought we were solid defensively. Cal possessed the ball well. Our back four did very well tonight. Cal is a very good team. That’s why they are ranked where they are.”

The Wildcats will next take on No. 21 Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Murphey Field at Lohse Stadium.
