As we begin a New Year, I find that I have many things to be thankful for. I have a beautiful wife and four children, a great job and many friends. I am also thankful for the opportunity to broadcast Arizona women's basketball for the ninth consecutive season.
So, in the basketball realm, these are the things I am thankful for as we enter 2004:
Coach Joan Bonvicini's friendship. She stood beside my family when my first wife, Jodee, passed away from cancer and was right there again to bless my recent marriage to Wendi.
The great people I travel with and interact with at the University of Arizona. For some reason, they all accept me as family even though I am just a radio broadcaster.
A winning basketball program. It is a joy to be around winners. This year is no exception, and 11-3 isn't bad!
Traveling in the Pac-10. I have already had enough of places like Baton Rouge, Louisiana!
Mindy Claggett, who is the best sports information director in the Pac-10. Without her, I wouldn't know half of what I know now!
UA senior associate athletics director Rocky LaRose, who has always treated me with great respect and, through her battle with cancer, has carried herself with grace and courage.
The opportunity to watch Dee-Dee Wheeler play each night.
The opportunity to watch Polkey play each night.
McArthur Court in Eugene, Oregon. It will be a sad day when that building goes down.
Wildcat trainer Anna Ferguson and assistant coach Kellee Barney, both of whom can spot a Starbucks coffee shop a mile away!
Classy players who play the game the way it should be played, not with elbows and knees.
Jonathan Morris, the best public address announcer I have run across.
Hotels with coffee makers in the room.
The game of basketball!
Happy New Year. I pray that you are blessed in everything you do!
See you on the radio!
All Arizona Women's Basketball Games are broadcast live on 1330 AM!
