STANFORD, Calif. ?- A sixth-inning, three-run homer by Kristie Fox put the third-ranked Wildcats ahead for good in a 4-1 victory over No. 5 Stanford on Friday night.

With the win, UA improves to 33-7 on the season and 4-4 in Pac-10 play.

Three-time All-American Alicia Hollowell (17-3) threw a one-run complete game, striking out 10 opposing hitters in seven innings.

Stanford took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, on three hits.  The frame could have been much worse for UA, but Hollowell worked out of a jam in which the Cardinal had runners on second and third with only one out.

The Cardinal held the one-run advantage until the sixth, when Fox’s eighth homer of the year put the Wildcats up 3-1.  In the seventh, Callista Balko hit a solo home run to provide Arizona with a three-run lead.

Stanford had the potential game-tying run at the plate in the seventh, but was unable to cash in, as Hollowell and UA held on.

Game notes:

-         Taryne Mowatt’s six-game hit streak was snapped

-         Caitlin Lowe made her first start since suffering a hand injury on March 19

-         Taryne Mowatt had her first career start at first base

-         UA is 21-4 in games in which it homers
