Abernathy Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona outside hitter Jennifer Abernathy has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Abernathy, a senior from Antioch, Calif., was named MVP of the Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic for the second straight year after leading all players in kills per game (4.67), and ranking second in service aces per game (0.44) and hitting percentage (.400), and sixth in blocks per game (0.89).

In Arizona’s sweep of No. 20 Georgia Tech, Abernathy led Arizona in kills (15), digs (9), blocks (4) and service aces (2). In the championship match against Northwestern, Abernathy again led the Wildcats with 16 kills, six digs and three blocks. In three matches overall, she collected 42 kills (4.67 kpg) with 10 errors on 80 attempts, while notching 16 digs (1.78 dpg).

This is the third weekly honor for Abernathy, and Arizona’s 22nd Pac-10 Player of the Week all-time.
