TUCSON, Ariz. ?C After day one of the Texas Invitational, the No. 4 Arizona womenˇ?s swimming team is in first place and has a slight lead over Pac-10 rival Stanford, 307.5 to 288.5. The No. 2 Arizona menˇ?s swimming team is in second place. They trail the University of Texas 250 to 248.5.
In the 500 yard free, the three Arizona womenˇ?s swimmers all had NCAA Consideration times. The three swimmers were: Susana Helms (4:49.12), Leone Vorster (4:48.36) and Joni Keith (4:50.10). On the menˇ?s side of thing, Jean Basson posted a NCAA Automatic time of 4:17.29 while Matt Biel posted an NCAA consideration time of 4:26.34.
Ana Agy posted a NCAA automatic time when she swam a 52.91 in the 100 yard butterfly. The NCAA automatic time in this event is 53.75. Hailey DeGolia (53.82) and Lara Jackson (53.90) where right off of the automatic pace, but placed a NCAA consideration time. Other swimmers with NCAA consideration times were: Courtney Cashion (55.14), Emma Darlington (55.16), Brady Collins (54.09), Dana Christ (54.14) and Taylor Baughman (54.52). On the menˇ?s side, Albert Subirats swam a 46.21 which was good enough to automatically qualify for the NCAAˇ?s. Nicolas Nilo swam an NCAA consideration time of 48.22.
In the 200 yard IM swimmers Carley Beaudreu and Caitlin Iversen posted NCAA automatic times of 1:59.62 and 2:00.33 respectively. Many other swimmers posted NCAA consideration times including: Andrea Boritzke (2:03.15), Jenny Forster (2:02.08), Justin Schluntz (2:01.34), Kathryn Thompson (2:02.68), Hailey DeGolia (2:03.38) and Annie Chandler (2:01.09). Four menˇ?s swimmers posted NCAA consideration times. Bart Steninger had the fastest time among the four with a time of 1:47.54. The other three swimmers were: Cory Chitwood (1:48.08), Bryan Oˇ?Connor (1:47.89) and Jack Brown (1:47.78).
Lara Jackson posted a NCAA automatic time in the 50 free. Jacksonˇ?s time was 22.49. The best time posted on the menˇ?s side for the Wildcats was Albert Subirats with a NCAA consideration time of 19.72. He was .12 seconds off of an automatic qualifying time.
