Getting to Know U of A Soccer: the Forwards

The following is a glimpse into the on the field and off the field lives of the Wildcat forwards.

 

#20 Gianna DeSaverio, Sophomore

Over the summer, I: babysat my cousin’s children, played soccer and went camping.

This season I want the team to: win the Pac-10 and the NCAA tournament.

My favorite part of being on the team is: having a family away from home.

I chose my number because: it was my eldest brother’s football number when he was little.

My favorite thing to do in practice is: scrimmage.

My most memorable moment on the soccer field is: scoring the winning goal in the state finals my junior year of high school.

My favorite soccer player is: Thierry Henry.

The person (people) I admire most is (are): my brothers Dominic and Anthony.

My personality off the field is: quiet unless I’m around close friends.

I’d like an autograph from: the entire Colorado Avalanche team.

The place I would most like to live is: Colorado.

My personal goals for the season are: to do whatever I can to help the team.

I am thankful for: the talent that I have been blessed with.

I am motivated by: myself and my teammates.

One place I want to visit is: Iceland.

 

#5 Laura Huylebroeck, freshman

Over the summer, I: played at the State Cup and went to regionals in Idaho with my club team. I also did my workouts.

This season I want the team to: bond, work together and have fun while winning the Pac-10 Championship and NCAA Championship.

My favorite part of being on the team is: I get to play with some of the best players in the country. I am also being pushed harder and having the opportunity to learn more and have fun.

I chose my number because: it’s been my number since I was a little girl and I am really superstitious about it.

My favorite thing to do in practice is: flying changes and horse shoes.

I chose the U of A because: it’s a great school, the soccer program is great and it’s close enough to my family. Also, the coaches, team and staff are awesome.

My most memorable moment on the soccer field is: when my friend and I were at practice and she tripped me and I face planted right in the mud.

My favorite soccer player is: Thierry Henry.

The person (people) I admire most is (are): my dad.

My personality off the field is: quiet, sensitive but still a bit outgoing and happy.

The place I would most like to live is: Washington because of all the rain and the ocean.

My personal goals for the season are: to learn as much as I can and use it on the field.

I am thankful for: my friends and family.

I am motivated by: my ambition.

One place I want to visit is: Belgium because it’s where my family was from.

 

#9 London King, sophomore

Over the summer, I: babysat.

This season I want the team to: win the Pac-10.

My favorite part of being on the team is: getting to know all of the girls.

I chose my number because: I wanted a one digit number and it was the only one left.

My favorite thing to do in practice is: flying changes and our ball.

I chose the U of A because: of the girls on the team.

My most memorable moment on the soccer field is: playing UCLA and scoring when my whole family was there to see it.

The person (people) I admire most is (are): my grandma, Betty King.

My personality off the field is: cool and funny.

I’d like an autograph from: Kobe Bryant.

The place I would most like to live is: Italy.

My personal goals for the season are: be the number one goal scorer.

I am thankful for: food.

I am motivated by: competition.

One place I want to visit is: London.

 

#21 Analisa Marquez, freshman

Over the summer, I: played soccer, worked at a soccer camp, swam for my swim team, worked out and hung out with my friends.

This season I want the team to: play well together and have a successful year learning about the game and also to go far in NCAA play.

My favorite part of being on the team is: the girls are great and I love playing soccer for a successful program.

I chose my number because: my birthday is on the 21st so it is good luck.

My favorite thing to do in practice is: shooting, scrimmaging and juggling.

I chose the U of A because: I wanted to be a part of a great program while getting a good education.

My most memorable moment on the soccer field is: when my team beat a soccer team that we had always had a mental block on and I assisted in the winning goal.

My favorite soccer player is: Fabio Cannavaro and Ronaldinho.

The person (people) I admire most is (are): my friend Michelle who was diagnosed with cancer senior year.

My personality off the field is: funning and outgoing but also calm.

The place I would most like to live is: Honduras, Australia or the Caribbean.

My personal goals for the season are: to improve my play and help my team succeed.

I am thankful for: my family for giving me the opportunity to play soccer.

I am motivated by: my friend Michelle, my parents and myself.

One place I want to visit is: Europe and Australia.

 

#7 Jasmine Namdar, freshman

Over the summer, I: was training, preparing for college, winning GU-18 regionals and going to nationals.

This season I want the team to: set goals to reach the National Championship and win!

My favorite part of being on the team is: having accomplished being on one of the top teams in the nation and playing at the highest level.

My favorite thing to do in practice is: push myself to the limit.

I chose the U of A because: I believed in the coaching staff and their philosophy, as well as the impressive school environment.

My favorite soccer player is: my dad.

I love it when: everybody competes at their fullest ability at practice.

The person (people) I admire most is (are): my mom.

My personality off the field is: friendly, lively and energetic.

I’d like an autograph from: Rhonaldinho and Kobe Bryant.

The place I would most like to live is: San Diego

My personal goals for the season are: to make the starting lineup and help my team win the Pac-10 and reach the finals in the NCAA tournament while maintaining an impressive GPA.

I am thankful for: my family support, my heath and my opportunity to play at Arizona.

One place I want to visit is: Brazil.

 

#23 Sally Thurner, redshirt sophomore

Over the summer, I: played soccer everyday with my sister.

This season I want the team to: reach its potential, take the Pac-10 by storm and have fun.

My favorite part of being on the team is: the intense competition on the field and the friendship off the field.

I chose my number because: it was my high school number.

I chose the U of A because: I love it out west and I have wanted to go here since the fourth grade.

My most memorable moment on the soccer field is: beating our conference rivals in high school for the first time in the school's history.

My favorite soccer player is: Wayne Rooney.

I love it when: I score on a breakaway.

The person (people) I admire most is (are): my mother.

My personality off the field is: reserved until I get to know people.

I’d like an autograph from: my brother after he is rich and famous.

The place I would most like to live is: Colorado.

My personal goals for the season are: to be an integral part of the team’s success.

I am thankful for: all of the sacrifices my family makes for me.

One place I want to visit is: Australia.
