Women's Golf to Tee Off at BYU Dixie Classic

Teeing Off: The No. 11 Arizona women’s golf team will tee-off Tuesday and Wednesday, April 3-4, at the BYU Dixie Classic hosted by Brigham Young University.

The Course: Entrada at Snow Canyon stretches 6,151 yards and is a par-72.

The Field: The 15 team field includes No. 11 Arizona, Boise State, No. 18 BYU, Cal-Berkeley, UC-Irvine, Colorado, Colorado State, No. 23 Denver, Idaho, Nevada, Portland State, San Diego State, TCU, Washington State, and Weber State. Three teams are currently ranked in the top-25 according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

The Schedule: 36 holes will be played on Tuesday and 18 holes will be played on Wednesday with tee times scheduled for 8am.

Last Time on the Course: The Arizona women’s golf team tied for sixth at the PING/ASU Invitational, held at the Karsten Course in Tempe, Arizona. The Wildcats shot a three day total of 888 (+24). Leading Arizona individually was junior Mary Jacobs who finished in a tie for 11th place after carding a tournament total of 216 (E). The tournament champion, Arizona State University, shot an 851 (-13).

With the highest finish for Arizona, Jacobs is now tied with fellow junior Alison Walshe for the most top 10/20 finishes, as they each have six.

Also competing for the Wildcats was junior Alison Walshe, who finished in a tie for 29th after carding a five-over par 221. Sophomore Adriana Zwanck also tied for 29th with a total score of 221 (+5). Sophomore Amanda Wilson finished in a tie for 64th with fellow Wildcat freshman Emily Mason after carding a sophomore Marisa Smith, who tied for 79th.

Interesting Notes: Mary Jacobs compiled a team high eight birdies during the PING/ASU Invitational, shooting two rounds under par.

Last Year’s Champion: UNLV won last year’s classic with a total score of 922 (+58). Seema Sadekar of BYU won the individual crown last year with a seven-over par 223.

Rankings: Arizona is currently ranked 11th in the Golfweek Performance Index. Individually, junior Alison Walshe ranks No. 12, while fellow classmate Mary Jacobs ranks No. 32. Sophomore Adriana Zwanck is ranked No. 52 to round out the top-trio of Wildcats.

The Competition: The field includes Arizona, Boise State, BYU, Cal-Berkeley, UC-Irvine, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho, Nevada, Portland State, San Diego State, TCU, Washington State, and Weber State.  Three teams are currently ranked in the top-25 according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

Top Flight: The Wildcats finished in the top 10 at each of the four events that they participated in during the fall. Arizona has also placed an individual in the top 10 six times throughout the fall, with two first-place finishes by Allison Walshe. Through four tournaments in the spring, the Wildcats have continued their streak by adding four more top 10 finishes to their record at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, the Wildcat Invitational, the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, and the PING/ASU Invitational. Three Wildcats finished in the top-10 at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, with junior Alison Walshe leading the way in fourth. Sophomore Amanda Wilson finished fifth and junior Mary Jacobs tied for ninth. Walshe claimed her sixth top-20 finish of the season at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. Jacobs claimed her sixth top-20 finish at the PING/ASU Invitational this past weekend.
