TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf "B" team competed in a tri-match against Arizona State and New Mexico on Saturday. The 18-hole competition took place at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz. (par is 72, 6,221 yards).
"I am very proud of our fight today," head coach Laura Ianello said. "We came out to play with a great attitude and we played well. Kyndall (Ardoin) was the medalist for the tournament for her first collegiate win. I am proud of the team's great attitude and it was fun to watch them compete."
Sophomore Kyndall Ardoin, sophomore Sherlyn Popelka, freshman Haley Andreas, junior Ashley Malaska and junior Nikki Koller competed for the Wildcats. Arizona State won the event with a 293, Arizona was second after carding a 295 and New Mexico was third with a score of 305.
Ardoin shot the low round of the event and paced the Cats with a 68 (-4) and a first-place finish, collecting her first collegiate win. Andreas finished tied for second with a 71 (-1). Popelka and Koller finished tied for 10th with rounds of 78 (+6). Malaska finished 15th with a carding of 82.
Arizona will send its top players to compete next at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, on March 14-15, in Waikiki, Hawaii.
