The 2008-09 college basketball season tips off in Tucson with back-to-back doubleheaders at McKale Center. Arizona serves as the host of the West Regional for the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-off. First Round action begins Monday, November 17th as Santa Clara will face UAB in Game 1 set to tip-off at 6:00 pm and Arizona will play Florida Atlantic in Game 2 at 9:00 pm.

This year's Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-off has a scheduling twist that provides all sixteen participants a guarantee of playing four games. The loser of Game 1 will play the loser of Game 2 in McKale Center on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30 pm while the winners of the two games will square-off in the nightcap at 9:30 pm.

As in the past, the winner of both games will advance to Madison Square Garden to play against the winner of the South Region held at the Lloyd Noble Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. The remaining three teams from the West Region will join the teams that lose from the other three regions and be matched in the Consolation Bracket. Consolation Bracket play will take place November 24th and 25th on campus sites to be determined. The University of Arizona is unable to host the Consolation Bracket games to a scheduling conflict.
