Trip was scheduled to begin May 21

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona men’s basketball coach Lute Olson announced Sunday that the team’s planned trip to Europe has been canceled.

The trip, which would have taken the Wildcats to Serbia-Montenegro, Italy, Spain and France from May 21-June 4, was called off due to multiple roster uncertainties.  With the continued rehabilitation of sophomore Jawann McClellan from left wrist surgery and the NBA Draft status of Mustafa Shakur and Marcus Williams still up in the air, it became necessary to cancel the trip.

“Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel the European trip,” said Olson.  With Jawann still rehabilitating and the uncertain circumstances surrounding Mustafa and Marcus and the NBA Draft, we just wouldn’t have had enough players to make the trip and remain competitive.  In fairness to the trip organizers, we felt like we had to make this decision now.”

As a replacement for the trip to Europe, the UA men’s basketball team plans to make a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, over the Labor Day weekend.  The team would depart Tucson on Friday, Sept. 1 and return on Monday, Sept. 4.

While in Vancouver, the team has tentatively scheduled five games (two Saturday, two Sunday and one Monday).  There would be no missed class time.  Additionally, UA’s incoming freshman class of Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill and Nic Wise would be able to make the trip.
