Arizona Head Coach Lute Olson Quotes

"Today was a case of too much quickness and too much size at the wing spots for Western Kentucky to be able to handle. Western Kentucky is a very good basketball team with a lot of experience. We got a lot of pressure on them, and a lot of the turnovers we forced them into were the result of our size and pass deflections."

"Defensively, we are getting there. We are doing a better job of anticipating the plays and passes, and that's the way to get turnovers. We just have to make sure that we are taking better care of the ball. The defense is coming; we really could be a good defensive team when we get done."

"Jason Gardner is playing absolutely as well as a point guard can play. He only had 12 points, but he is getting the ball down court quickly, and he is opening the lanes for the fast break."

"Will Bynum gave us a huge lift when we needed it early. I also am really happy with the way Isaiah Fox is playing. He was aggressive in attacking the guy coming off the screen. He is so active now compared to the way he was a year ago; he almost seems like a completely different player."

"Rick Anderson and Luke Walton saw limited playing time because we wanted to get the freshman wings as much playing time as possible."

Arizona Player Quotes

Freshman Hassan Adams:
"Coach Olson stays on us so much about defense because that's what wins. We had to come out today and show we're the No. 1 team in the country. We give 100 percent out there and then Coach will give you a rest so you can get back out there and keep giving 100 percent."

"Basically, we wanted to come out and give 100 percent today. We've been waiting six weeks for this game. We've been going hard against each other in practice and in the two exhibition games. We were ready."

"Even though we scored 107 points, defense is what will win us games."

On the difference between being in high school a year ago and now:
"It's a big difference. But it makes me hungrier and makes me want to work harder."

Senior Rick Anderson:
"They (the freshmen) are physically built for this press. It seems like they're perfect for this system."

"Our half-court defense is what needs improvement. We slipped up a couple times, some lob passes got through into open areas. The second half was fun. I was just sitting there, watching and cheering."

On when Arizona goes on a run:
"They (the opponent) lose hope a little bit, they get a little tentative. We jump on them and try to put them away."

"Jason Gardner is such a great leader out there that he gets everyone going even if he isn't scoring."

"My confidence in the offseason is the difference (in my shooting). Playing in my fifth year here gives me a lot of experience. I am a good shooter."

Senior Luke Walton:
"We left everything out there. We're going to keep it (the press) up. This was only our first game. It's only going to get better."

On the freshmen:
"They're great, they come in confident and shoot the ball so well. They bring a lot to the game for us. These guys are ready to step in and make a contribution right away."

"With our depth, every game you'll see someone else step up. Throughout the season, you're going to see someone different stepping up for us."

"Our offense got sloppy at times when we weren't making some sharp cuts, so I see some room for improvement there."

Sophomore Channing Frye:
"Everybody thinks this is a perimeter man's school, but Josh Pastner has done a great job with our big guys. Coach Olson always says this is an inside-out game."

"People just come out and play hard. It's going to be really hard for teams to match us up because we go so deep."

"We're even more anxious to play our next game now. We got to play this game and see what we need to work on."

"Western Kentucky is a very good team. I feel like they'll do well and and go deep in the tournament. They've got good coaching, good role players. I just think we were probably a little too deep for them."
