Arizona vs. Oregon State

Post-Game Quotes

Arizona Head Coach Joan Bonvicini: “This was very important to end the first half of the conference season strong. We are 6-3, which normally wouldn’t be great. But with our struggles with injuries, it’s a good thing.”

“I’m disappointed that we weren’t on the boards. It was a matter of not boxing out. We have to be big off of free throws and box out.”

“Jessica Arnold was huge. She had a career high tonight and she came up big for us. I give her a lot of credit. She has a lot of confidence for a player that isn’t that tall. She plays very physical.  She has a great feel for the game and continues to get better”

“We have two really difficult games ahead of us. Now we have the opportunity to get Arizona State again. Someone said we couldn’t get 10,000 people here. I think it would be great to get that many fans here and support Arizona women’s basketball. We can show that we have two great basketball teams here in Tucson. I know that’s a challenge and I am up for a challenge.”

“We control our own destiny. We are tied with Arizona State now. With the Stanford-USC game tonight, someone is going to be down two games. We have five conference games at home, and we have to get those. We need to take one game at a time. We have to continue to grow and get better.”

Freshman Guard Jessica Arnold: “We wanted to come out with intensity and start the game strong.”

“As the season goes on, a lot more people are contributing. That’s good.”

“I’ll get more comfortable [with the brace], but it’s coming back. With the brace, it’s hard to get my shot down, but it’s coming back.”

“We worked on the zone offense. We changed up our zone offense a bit and that helped us.”

“Natalie is an excellent defender. We put her on their best offensive scorer and she did awesome.”

Senior Center Danielle Adefeso: “I think we didn’t look at their record, we just played Arizona basketball. If they weren’t good they wouldn’t be in our conference.”

“I had to get used to it [starting] at UCLA. I just want to do whatever my team needs me to do to be the best in the Pac-10.”

“The post should have been able to dominate in this game. In shoot-around and practice, we worked on power moves and our shots.”

“We are just taking it one game at a time and playing that way.”

Junior Guard Natalie Jones: “Basically we have a team goal that we set. We know that [Shannon] Howell is leading the Pac-10 in scoring. Our goal was to keep her down to 10. When I saw her points, I took it personal that it would help my team if I did keep her points down. If I get against someone like her, I want to shut the player down. Obviously, they put me on them for a reason. Then in five years I can look back and think I had the privilege to guard her. Like Nicole Powell, look where she is now.”

“My coaches are working with me. They have told me that if I miss a shot, just forget it and go back and play defense. I can’t rush it [my shot], which I have a tendency to do. I just need to let my offense come to me.”
