            Senior guard averaged 19.0 points and six rebounds in earning Fiesta Bowl Classic MVP honors


TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona men’s basketball player Hassan Adams was named U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 19-25, the league announced Monday.


Adams, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior guard from Los Angeles, Calif.,  earned Most-Valuable-Player honors at the Fiesta Bowl Classic after averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in the pair of victories.  Adams shot 50.0 percent from the floor (17-of-34) and added five assists and three blocks in the effort. 


He opened the week with 15 points (7-of-13 FGs), five boards and four steals in just 23 minutes Monday vs. Sam Houston State, and followed that up with a game-high 23 points (10-of-21 FGs), seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks Wednesday vs. Western Kentucky.  Adams tallied 14 of those 23 points in the second half vs. the Hilltoppers, including four in overtime.


On the season, Adams is averaging a team-leading 19.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.8 percent from the field.  It is the first such award for Arizona this season, and the first time in his career that Adams has been recognized by the league office. Incidentally, it is the 65th award all-time for the Wildcats, a Pac-10 best.


Arizona (7-3, 0-0 Pac-10), will next be in action on Thursday, Dec. 29, at Washington State.  Tip-off at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Wash., is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST and can be seen on FSN Arizona.
