No. 48 Arizona Opens Pac-10 with Decisive Win

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- No. 48 Arizona opened the Pac-10 season at home today with a 6-1 win over No. 56 Washington State.  The Wildcats (4-3, 1-0) got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point and that momentum continued throughout singles.  The Cougars (8-2, 0-1) only managed one point on the day and that came with the match already decided.


In doubles, Danielle Steinberg and Camelia Todorova got the momentum going for the Wildcats with an 8-6 win over Ashley Spicer and Amy Toth on court two.  The Cougars were able to even it up with a win in the No. 1 spot.  The point then came down to court three and Juliette Mavroleon and partner Katie Orletsky.  The pair was able to break serve to get the 8-5 victory and secure the doubles point for Arizona.


In singles, Mavroleon kept the Wildcats rolling with her straight set victory over Toth, 6-1, 6-3.  Steinberg claimed Arizona’s third point in the No. 1 spot, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Ekaterina Burduli.  Tina Razloznik secured the win for the Wildcats with her 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 5 position.  Arizona also picked up wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 positions.


The Wildcats will look to improve to 2-0 in the Pac-10 tomorrow when they face Washington at noon.
