TUCSON, Ariz. - The 2012-13 men's basketball season will begin a bit earlier than usual, as the University of Arizona has planned a trip to the Bahamas in August.
The six-day trip is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Aug. 9, and runs through Tuesday, Aug. 14. In that span, the Cats will play two games against outside competition and hold one practice and an intra-squad scrimmage. While in the Bahamas, the team will be headquartered at the Royal Towers at the Atlantis in Paradise Island.
Here is a tentative daily schedule for the trip:
Thurs., Aug. 9: Travel to Nassau, Bahamas
Fri., Aug. 10: Practice, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Sat., Aug. 11: Game vs. Cybots/Giants, 7 p.m.
Sun., Aug. 12: Intra-squad Scrimmage, noon-2 p.m.
Mon., Aug. 13: Game vs. Bahamas All Stars, 5 p.m.
Tue., Aug. 14: Return to Tucson
This trip marks Arizona's first foreign tour since 2006 and the seventh in school history. Previously, the Cats have traveled internationally to Europe (1985, 1989), Australia (1993, 1997, 2002) and Canada (2006).
"With the number of newcomers entering the program this year, a foreign trip like this comes at a good time," said Arizona head coach Sean Miller, "not just for the games, but more importantly, for the practices, the team building and the experience of working together. This gives us a chance to establish early on who we are and how we do things."
