WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior Karissa Buchanan saved her best performance for last as she earned her first career conference Player of the Week award in her final regular season series. Buchanan was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of May 7-13 for her efforts against Oregon State.
Buchanan batted .800 (8-for-10) in Arizona's series victory over Oregon State in the senior's final regular season home series in her career. The Tucson native had an RBI and three runs scored in the series; Arizona won games one and three 12-4 (6 innings) and 3-1, respectively and dropped game two 4-0.
The senior saved one of her best career games for her last. In her 200th career start on Saturday's regular season finale, Buchanan recorded a season-high four hits (4-for-4) with a career-high-tying three stolen bases on three attempts.
Buchanan is hitting .330 on the season with a team-best 19 stolen bases on a perfect 19 attempts.
The award is Arizona's third weekly conference recognition of the season and 137th all-time. Brigette Del Ponte was named Player of the Week on Feb. 28 and Shelby Babcock earned Pitcher of the Week on April 16.
California's Valerie Arioto was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for her efforts against Arizona State.
Arizona, the nation's No. 13 seed, will host an NCAA Regional this weekend, beginning with a tilt with North Dakota State on Friday, May 18 at 5:00 p.m. PDT. All games in Arizona's region will be televised by ESPNU and ESPN3.com.
