TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona baseball team hit the field on Saturday for its Red-Blue intrasquad game at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium in conjunction with the program’s Alumni Weekend festivities.

The Arizona “Blue” team defeated the “Red” team, 3-2, rallying from behind to win in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Several hundred Wildcat fans turned out to get the first glimpse of the 2010 Wildcats while also collecting autographs from alumni in attendance, including pitchers Brad Mills and Daniel Schlereth from recent UA teams, as well as some older names such as George Arias and Craig Lefferts.

The Arizona baseball program is honoring the 1960 and 1985 anniversary teams, as well as the 1980 NCAA Championship team for Alumni Weekend. Former and current Wildcats will attend a dinner this evening at La Paloma to cap the weekend of festivities.

During the Red-Blue game, alumni signed autographs for fans and attended a luncheon down the left field line in the Arizona Baseball Legends Plaza.

Wildcat fans in attendance were treated to a pitcher’s duel between the two squads, which each had four pitchers throw two innings each. The intrasquad was similar to most UA practice scrimmages, and the other half of UA’s pitching threw on Friday.

Arizona will open its 2010 season on Feb. 19 as it opens a three-game series against Utah Valley.
