AUSTIN, Texas - After two days of competition in the 2002 Texas Invitational, the Arizona women's swim and dive team is in third place with 462.50 points while the men's team remains in eighth with 129 points. On Saturday, the Wildcats added fifteen more NCAA qualifying times, bringing their grand total to 28 over the past two days.

In the evening actions, junior Jessica Wagner and senior Beth Botsford both solidified their status in this year's NCAA Championships with automatic qualifying times. Even though they had already received automatic bids, Wagner and Botsford's times in their given events significantly improved during evening competition. Wagner's time came in the 100y breast while Botsford's swim in the 100y back granted heran automatic bid to this year's tournament.

The Wildcats got off to a very fast start in Friday's morning preliminary competition. All in all, Arizona's men and women combined for 13 NCAA Qualifying times, three automatic and ten consideration.

Wagner garnered the first "A" time of the day with her swim in the 100y breast (1:01.77). Then, in the 100y back, the twosome of Beth Botsford, who has already qualified in the 100y fly, and freshman Marshi Smith both received automatic bids to the NCAA's. Botsford touched the wall in 54.06 while Smith finished in 55.17.

Elsewhere, junior Emily Mason, sophomore Jessica Hayes and freshman Jenna Gresdal clocked "B" times in two different events. Each member of the trio recorded a "B" time in the 200y free and the 100y back events.

For the Wildcat men, junior Juan Veloz, fresh off his record-setting performance in the Central American Games, clocked in at 3:53.04 in the 400y IM, a time good enough to merit consideration from the NCAA.

The Wildcats conclude the 2002 Texas Invitational on Saturday. Like the previous two days, preliminary action commences at 10 a.m. while the finals are held at 6 p.m.
