PALO ALTO, Calif. ?- The Arizona Women’s golf team played their best round of the season today in the final round of the Stanford-Pepsi Women’s Intercollegiate.  The Wildcats finished the tournament in a tie for 7th place.

The Cats shot a 289 in round three and finished the tournament with an 886.  The 289 that Arizona shot marks their best team score of the season.

The tournament was won by Duke who led after each round.  Duke shot an 834 for the tournament and had three of their golfers in the top 5.

Arizona Senior Cassandra Kirkland shot an amazing -3 (68), and finished tied for 16th with a 217 total.  “It is really good to see Cass playing the way that we all know she is capable of playing,” head coach Greg Allen said.

Freshman Lauren Espinosa continued her strong play finishing the tournament in a tie for 41st place.  Espinosa shot a +4 in round three and finished with a score of 224.

Freshman Amanda Wilson and senior Lani Elston-Marshall finished the tournament tied for 47th place.  Elston came back after shooting a +7 in round two to shoot an E (71) in the third and final round.  Wilson shot a 75 in the third round.  The two Cats finished with a total of 226 for the tournament.

After a shaky first round and a stellar second round, freshman Sommer Scholl withdrew from the tournament after the 4th whole in round three.  “Sommer was in a lot of pain today in her wrist and elbow,” Allen said.  “She will see our trainers tomorrow and hopefully get in to see the doctor as well.”

The Wildcats have one more tournament before the fall season wraps up.  Monday Oct. 31-Nov. 2 the Arizona Wildcats women’s golf team will appear at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, N.V.

“I am excited for our team right now,” Allen said.  “I am very pleased with our finish today and I think we can carry over the momentum to our last tournament of the fall season.”
