TUCSON, Ariz. - The NCAA selection committee announced Thursday that the women's tennis doubles team of senior Michelle Gough and junior Sophie Regnier will be part of the 32-team doubles field, May 21-25, at the NCAA Championships in Stone Mountain, Ga.
The duo compiled a 13-11 record while competing at the No. 1 doubles position in dual match play. Gough and Regnier cracked the doubles poll on April 6 at No. 38 and proceeded to finish the season strong with their highest ranking of the year, No. 32, in the May 4 edition.
The pair began the year winning eight of their first 10 matches to build momentum for a postseason run. The duo is 2-7 against the tournament field.
The selection marks Gough's second straight trip to the doubles tournament.
Last year, Gough and Lindsay Blau capped off a decorated season with a trip
to the NCAA Championships in Malibu, Calif. Blau and Gough highlighted the
campaign with tournament titles at the ITA Region VIII tournament and the
Pac-10 tournament to earn conference doubles team of the year honors. The
10th-ranked pair was tripped up in the first round by Wake Forest's Janet
Bergman and Bea Bielik, 6-2, 7-5.
