TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona Head Women’s Basketball Coach Joan Bonvicini today announced that Curtis Loyd, an assistant coach for the last six years, is leaving the Wildcat program. Loyd has accepted a position at the University of Virginia.

"Curtis has done a good job here," Bonvicini said. "We wish him and his family the best of luck."

Loyd’s primary responsibility was the development of the Wildcat post players. During his tenure, he coached five All-Pac-10 posts at the UA, including two-time first team selection Elizabeth Pickney and most recently, the 2003 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and a two-time selection, Shawntinice Polk. A two-time honorable mention All-American, in just two seasons Polk has become Arizona’s all-time leading shot blocker and ranks first in rebounding average, third in scoring average, fourth in total rebounds and 10th in points.

Loyd also served as the program’s film exchange coordinator, academic liaison and director of the Joan Bonvicini Hoop Camp.
