Final Box Score
TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona baseball team dropped its second straight game to Long Beach State, 10-3, on Saturday night at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium.
Shaky pitching, a quiet night at the plate and a sloppy performance in the field doomed the Wildcats (3-2) in the second game of the three game series.
Arizona actually took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an unearned run. Steve Selsky reached on a fielding error and came around to score on Robert Refsnyder's RBI single up the middle.
From there, though, all the momentum went to the way of the visiting 49ers. Starter Kyle Simon gave up one run in the second, which tied the game, and four in the third as the Wildcats fell behind 5-1.
Simon, who struck out eight batters a week ago, fanned just one on Saturday and issued four walks. He lasted just four innings and scattered six hits while suffering his first loss of the year.
LBSU added a single run in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the ninth to extend its lead and put the game out of reach. UA's bullpen allowed five runs and walked three over the final 4.1 innings.
Arizona scored once in the sixth and again in the ninth.
The Wildcat bats, which rapped out 14 hits and scored six runs off LBSU ace Jake Thompson on Friday night, could not put together a come back bid. UA collected just six hits in the game and left eight runners on base.
Defensively, a trio of errors led to two unearned runs and help get momentum in favor of the 49ers.
The two teams will square off in the series finale on Sunday at Noon.
