TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Arizona pitcher Taryne Mowatt (32-10) tossed the third no-hitter in Arizona NCAA postseason history, as the Wildcats routed Howard, 9-0, in five innings.

The junior pitcher struck out 12 of the 16 batters she faced, allowing one Bison hitter to reach via walk and three others to make contact for a groundout or flyout.

The no-no was the fifth of Mowatt’s career and third of this season.  The quintet of hitless outings places Mowatt in a tie with current pitching coach Nancy Evans for sixth on UA’s all-time list for no-hitters in a career.

The victory, which improved Arizona to 40-12-1 on the year, also came in large part to the Wildcat offense ?- namely Kristie Fox and Jenae Leles.

Fox, who earlier this week was named to the all-Pac-10 first team along with Mowatt and Caitlin Lowe, put the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer to right field.  The blast was the San Diego, Calif., native’s 14th of the year and 47th of her career.

Leles, went 2-for-3 on the night with four RBI as she clubbed a pair of home runs ?- a solo shot in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fourth.  That marked the second multi-home run game of the third baseman’s career and gave her a new career high in home runs with nine in 2007.

Overall, Arizona tallied 10 hits over four innings at the plate.  Lowe contributed one hit, two runs scored, a pair of RBI and her 47th stolen base of the season.  Additionally, nine-hole hitter Adrienne Acton reached with a pair of singles and scored a run.

With the win, Arizona moves on to face Mississippi State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.  The game can be heard live on the radio at 1290 AM.  All games throughout the Tucson Regional can be seen live via webcast at arizonaathletics.com free of charge.

Howard moves on to the elimination game against Pacific at 4 p.m.
