Things started well for Arizona when Brad Hassey led off the game with a double down the right field line. Rockies' starter John Thomson, who earned the win with three strikeouts over two innings, limited the damage and emerged unscathed, paving the way for Colorado's bats.
The Rockies' offense took over from there, as Colorado scored four in the first, six in the fourth, three in the fifth and one each in the seventh and eighth. Rockies' star Todd Hollandsworth went 2-for-3 with a double, a pair of RBIs and a runs scored. Brent Butler hit a solo home run in the eighth.
Greg Powers' fourth inning single up the middle plated Chris Cunningham for Arizona's only run of the game.
Arizona will return to its regular season action this weekend with a two-game series with Cal State-Dominguez Hills, the school where Andy Lopez began his collegiate head coaching career. First pitch on Saturday is slated for a 5 p.m.
