On Friday August 31, the Arizona womenˇ?s soccer team opens its 2007 campaign against Utah Utes (1-0-0) at 7 p.m. at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.??Mulcahy Stadium is located at the corner of Plumer Ave and 15th?Street, adjacent to Drachman Track.?

On Sunday September 2, UA will travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to take on the Cal Poly Mustangs (0-0-0).??This will be the Mustangs second match of the season.?

Coach Dan Tobias

Arizona head coach Dan Tobias is entering his fifth season at Arizona.??In 2003, Tobias took over a program that in its nine previous seasons had never had a winning record, and soon he had the Wildcats as contenders in both the Pac-10 and national championship picture.??Tobias carries a 40-35-7 overall record with the Wildcats.? He has earned Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors twice, in 2002, with Washington State and 2004, with Arizona, as well as National Coach of the Year in 2004 by Soccer America.? In 2004 Tobias also received West Region Coach of the Year by Soccer Buzz and NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year honors as well.? In 2004 Tobias led UA to its first Pac-10 title and followed that with a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2005.

Utah ?Utes

?Utah head coach Rich Manning is entering his sixth season with an overall record of 72-24-10 and the Utes are 26-3-3 in conference play under Manning.??Last year the Utes went 16-5-1 (7-0-0 in the Mountain West Conference).??The Utes return top goal scorer junior forward Adele Letro who finished with 12 goals last season.? In their previous match the Utes defeated Weber State 1-0.?

Cal Poly Mustangs

Head coach Alex Crozier is entering his 16th season with the Mustangs.? As the only man to walk the sidelines at Cal Poly Crozier has compiled an overall record of 184-87-30 and has had a winning record in 14 of his 15 seasons.? Last year the Mustangs were 10-7-3 (3-1-1 in the Big West Conference) and advanced to the Big West Conference Championship game by knocking off top seed Long Beach State in double overtime.? The Mustangs return their second leading goal scorer junior forward Ashley Vallis, who scored seven goals last year, as well as senior goalie Alli Tramel who appeared in all 20 games for the Mustangs last year and allowed .91 goals/per game.

Recapping 2006

The Wildcats finished the 2006 season with a record of 8-10-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the Pac-10 Conference.? The Wildcats roster, contained 19 freshmen or sophomores, who gained valuable game experience.? This year the Wildcats return 19 of 24 players, including six of their top seven goal scorers.? The Wildcats return 10 of 11 starters and 19 of 21 letterwinners.? This years freshman class is relatively small compared to past years, as the Wildcats welcome nine new players.

Returning Players

UAˇ?s returning players are led by forward London Kingˇ?s whose 2006 campaign consisted of five goals and an assist for a total of 11 points.? Forward Jasmine Namdar and mid/forward Jacqueline Broussard each scored two goals on the 2006 season.? Goalie Chelsea McIntyre suffered a season-ending knee injury over the summer and will be replaced in goal by classmate Devon Wharf.
