TUCSON, Ariz. (Mar. 16) -- The University of Arizona women's basketball team has been awarded an at-large bid to the 2003 NCAA Tournament, making this the Cats' first NCAA berth since the 1999-2000 season. The Wildcats have earned the No. 6 seed in the East Region and will play in a sub-regional hosted by Kansas State.
Arizona will travel to Manhattan, Kans., to take on 11th-seeded Notre Dame (19-10) on Sunday, Mar. 23. The second game of that doubleheader will feature host and No. 3 seed Kansas State (28-4) against 14th-seeded Harvard (22-4). The second-round game will be played on Tuesday, Mar. 25. Game times are still to be announced, and all contests in this year's women's tournament are slated for broadcast on ESPN.
Arizona, which finished regular season play with 22-8 overall and 13-5 Pac-10 marks, is in the NCAA tournament for only the fifth time in school history. The last time the Cats were in the tournament, they were the No. 8 seed in the Mideast during the 2000 tournament. They downed No. 9 seed Kent in the first round, but came up short against No. 1 seed Tennessee in the second game.
