Austin, Texas ?- After the first day of competition at the 2005 Texas Invitational, the No. 6 Arizona women’s and the No. 5 men’s swimming teams are both in first place while posting a total of 12 automatic qualifying times and 12 consideration times for the 2006 NCAA championships.

In the 100 butterfly, junior Whitney Myers finished first with an automatic qualifying time of 52.79. Senior Lisa Pursley also posted an individual automatic qualifying time of 53.67 while placing third overall. Myers later won the 200 IM with another automatic qualifying time of 1:57.01.
In the 50 freestyle, Gresdal and Nymeyer posted automatic qualifying times as Gresdal finished first (22.37) and Nymeyer was third (22.51). Five Wildcat women posted consideration times in the race as well.
To finish tonight’s completion for the women, the 400 medley relay team of Gresdal, senior Erin Sieper, Myers and Nymeyer finished first with an automatic qualifying time of 3:36.66.
The men posted 268 points to also take the first place position ahead of the Longhorns (224). The 200 free relay started things for the Wildcats as seniors Simon Burnett, Lyndon Ferns, sophomore Albert Subirats and sophomore Adam Ritter finished first with a consideration time of 1:18.56.
Subirats posted the first automatic qualifying time for the men in the 100 butterfly with a time of 46.84. Senior Tyler DeBerry posted an NCAA consideration time in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:20.06. In the 200 IM, Ritter finished first with an automatic qualifying time of 1:45.03, while senior Dave Rollins posted a consideration time of 1:47.05 and finishing second.
In the 50 freestyle, Burnett finished first (19.28) and Ferns finished second (19.65), both posting automatic qualifying times. Subirats finished sixth in the race with a consideration time of 20.10.
For the final event of the evening, the 400 medley relay team of Burnett, sophomore Ivan Barnes, Subirats and Ferns posted an automatic qualifying time of 3:08.69. Burnett also broke a school record with his lead-off time of 46.44 in the 100 backstroke.
