TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona volleyball program announced its Spring schedule today with the Wildcats playing host to one tournament and traveling to three regional sites.
Opening the schedule, Arizona will host its annual Spring Tournament on March 26 with seven teams expected to participate including Arizona State, Grand Canyon University, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Texas-El Paso and Yavapai.
On April 9th, Arizona will travel to Las Cruces, N.M. for a return match with NMSU. The Aggies, led by head coach Mike Jordan, faced Arizona twice during the 2010 regular season with the Wildcats winning both meetings.
After traveling to play the Aggies, UA will take to San Diego, Calif. to play San Diego State on April 16th before finishing its Spring allotted time one week later against USC in Los Angeles.
During the spring season, Arizona will look to some new faces to lead the team after graduating five seniors. At the setter position, junior-to-be Tori Moore takes the reigns from four-year starter Paige Weber.
Pac-10 Conference honorable mention honorees Cursty Jackson and Candace Nicholson return for the Wildcats at the starting middle blocker and libero positions, respectively. Senior-to-be Courtney Karst also returns at the outside hitter position for UA.
One intriguing addition to the Wildcats roster this spring is freshman Madison Kingdon. Kingdon, the Arizona high school player-of-the-year this past fall, graduated early from Sunnyslope HS in Phoenix and is now enrolled for the Spring semester at Arizona.
The 2011 Pac-12 fall schedule has not been released yet for volleyball but will feature 22 conference matches with Colorado and Utah joining the now 12-team conference.
