Arizona head coach Sean Miller quotes
On tonight's loss to UCLA:
"UCLA played a great game. I give them tremendous credit. They came into an amazing environment that we had for them and played with incredible poise. One guy on their team that I think was the difference maker was Larry Drew. He ran their team. We had no answer to his nine assists. I would say he had nine assists, but he probably had three or four other passes that led to fouls. Those don't count as assists, but he dominated the game. They had other players feed off of him like Shabazz Muhammad. He is an excellent player. Jordan Adams is also an excellent player. I know Travis Wear didn't play in the second half, and hopefully he is ok. David [Wear] filled in for him fine. They had a total team effort. They were the better team tonight.
On UCLA's ability to stay ahead:
"We missed maybe five or six, what I would call really good shots, early in the game. That dug us a hole. Sometimes when we play behind the whole game we try to make things happen individually. Even though our guys fought hard, we weren't playing team basketball or executing. We ended the game with 10 assists, but that's not good enough in a game like this. We strive to be a hungry, driven team. It's hard to always come back from behind. There were times when we were able to get the lead down to six, but they were too good tonight. They were the better team."
On UCLA transition game:
"They took the ball from us either stealing it or just picking it off the dribble. Their defense created turnovers. We had 14 turnovers, but they may have taken eight of our 14. Our turnovers were disastrous turnovers. In the beginning of the second half and throughout it we had to battle. They have so many good players that are able to adjust in the transition. We've had our moments. We are 16-2. There are always those tough loses and those great wins. We lost to an excellent team that took it to us. They are going to win their fair share of games because they're only going to get better."
On missed shots:
"It was that type of game. When you're down 21-5 at home it's not a good feeling. Some of the plays we made were a function of us trying to make big plays. We needed to make some key shots. From a defensive perspective, we had no answer for them. I have to give credit where it's due. They did a great job. They have a number of players that executed."
Arizona Player Quotes
Senior G/F Kevin Parrom
On outcome of game:
"It's very frustrating. This was a big game and everybody wanted to do well. I give all the credit in the world to UCLA, they played their hearts out. We'll have our chance to play them again later in the season."
Senior Forward Solomon Hill
On what went wrong:
"We got down early. When you get down like that, it's hard to fight back. UCLA is a great team and we couldn't contain them. Towards the end of the game they were consistent and knocked down every free throw."
On what's next:
"We're still competing. It's a hard loss in front of a big home crowd but people have to remember that we're 16-2. We still have lots of basketball left. We have to get back to work and USC is coming for us next."
Sophomore Guard Nick Johnson
On thoughts of game:
"We missed easy shots. That's something we have to do better for our upcoming games. I wouldn't say it's something we did wrong in practice or in our execution, our shots just wouldn't fall."
