TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona women’s soccer team won its home opener at Lohse Stadium 1-0 over Gonzaga in the Four Points Sheraton Cats Classic. London King scored the lone goal for the Wildcats.

King, a sophomore, gave the Wildcats the lead with her third goal of the season at the 29:15 mark of the first half. The goal was built up by a nicely played ball from Kaity Heath through the Gonzaga defense, before King finished the ball in the left side of the net.

In the early going, Arizona spent much of the time on the attack but Gonzaga had many opportunities towards the end of the first half and into the second. The Zags had 13 shots in the game compared to the Wildcats 12. What appeared to be an early goal by King was wiped away because she was called offsides.

“The first 32 minutes were great,” said head coach Dan Tobias. “We kept the ball really well, we kept it on the ground, we got great chances and we had great energy. Past that first 32 minutes, we stopped doing the things that made us successful.”

Chelsea McIntyre earned her second shut out of the season, with five saves.

Arizona, which improved to 3-2-0 on the season, will be in action again on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Hawaii at 1:30 p.m. in the conclusion of the Four Points Sheraton Cats Classic.

Hawaii played Pacific to a 0-0 tie in the opening game of the tournament.
