SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Arizona shot just 31 percent from the field and committed 27 turnovers in a 57-38 loss to host San Diego State, Saturday evening at the JHG Jam in Viejas Arena.
All-American Ify Ibekwe was the only Arizona player to score in double figures, tallying 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for her third double-double in as many games. No other player, however, scored more than six points as the Cats tallied just 19 in each half.
The Wildcats converted on just 15 field goals for the game, nearly doubling that total in giveaways. San Diego State (3-0) also claimed a 45-34 edge on the glass, including 18 offensive rebounds.
Despite their shooting woes, Arizona trailed just 21-19 with 2:02 remaining before halftime. However, the Aztecs scored the final six points of the first half and used a 19-2 that stretched into the second half to build a comfortable 40-21 lead.
Though Arizona forced 24 turnovers to counter their high number of miscues, the Cats turned that into just seven points while San Diego State scored 27 of its 57 points off turnovers.
Arizona was also victimized in the paint by a 36-18 margin, thanks in large part to a 18-point, 10-rebound performance by the Aztecs' Paris Johnson.
Ibekwe also added three steals and three blocked shots for Arizona. Jene Morris had 12 points for San Diego State while Jessika Bradley pulled down 10 rebounds.
Arizona (2-1) plays its regular season home opener on Monday, November 23 with a special 11:00 a.m. tip-off time against Ole Miss.
