Hey Gymcat Fans!

?

I hope everyone enjoyed their day off this past Monday in celebration of the Veterans. Our team also had a day off, from practice, but certainly not from physical activity. We drove about an hour outside of Tucson to Picacho Peak where the team practiced our hiking skills.

?

The hike started off fairly easy and was mostly uphill. At various times we stopped and took team pictures. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. About halfway up the hike we realized that when the website said it was a vertical climb, they meant it. Our team used wires that were placed on the side of the mountain to help us scale up the side. At certain points there were cages to protect us from completely falling off the edge. It was really hard work getting to the top, but everyone did a great job of staying motivated. We took the Hunter Trail which was two miles to the top. We were all relieved when we reached the peak at 3,374 feet. To show our victory, being typical gymnasts, we had Bill take a picture of us doing handstands at the top of the mountain.

?

Then there was downward climb, being the original route reversed. This part proved to be even more tedious and dangerous than the climb up. Fortunately, everyone made it back down in one piece with only a few aches and pains.? Overall, the hike was challenging physically, but an incredible experience that I doubt many gymnastics teams in the nation get to experience.

?

Of course Tuesday we were back in school and back in the gym. Everyone is making incredible progress in the gym. We are in the single digits now; counting down the number of practices before our first intrasquad. Each practice we are getting more consistent in our routines and are eager to be competing again. We will be performing on both vault and beam in the first intrasquad which will take place on November 30, and will continue getting ready for our second intrasquad consisting of bar and floor routines on December 14. We look forward to seeing all of you at our first meet at home on January 11!

?

Love,

?
