Wildcats Remain in Fourth Place after Day Three at Pac-10 Championships

Long Beach, Calif. ?- After the third day at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, the No. 8 Arizona men’s swim team remains in fourth place with 327 points, posting three NCAA automatic qualifying times and seven consideration times.


            Beginning this evening’s action for the Wildcats was junior Lyndon Ferns who finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 46.30, posting the first NCAA automatic qualifying time. Freshman Albert Subirats finished 12th in the race with a time of 48.50.


            Junior Simon Burnett finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:34.70 and junior Tyler DeBerry finished ninth (1:37.37). In the 100-yard breaststroke, junior Dave Rollins finished eighth (55.48) and freshman Ivan Barnes was ninth. Freshman Gerhard Zandberg took sixth-place in the 100-yard backstroke (48.32) and freshman Nick Thoman finished seventh (48.68).   


            Finishing the events for tonight’s competition was the 400-yard medley relay composed of Zandberg, Barnes, Ferns and Burnett finished fourth with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:12.11.


            The men will complete competition at the Pac-10 Championships tomorrow at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool at 11 a.m. (PST) for preliminary action and finals will begin at 6 p.m.
