TUCSON (AP) - Arizona extended its home winning streak to 19 games with Shawntinice Polk scoring 19 points in an 89-74 victory over Washington in their Pac-10 opener on Saturday.

The Wildcats' winning ways in McKale Center is tied with Purdue and Western Illinois for the seventh-longest active home streak in the country. The loss was Washington's ninth straight at Arizona.

Polk added 15 rebounds for the 24th double-double of the sophomore's career, and her third this season. Dee-Dee Wheeler also had 19 points, while Aimee Grzyb and Natalie Jones both scored 17, and CoCoa Sanford added 11.

Giuliana Mendiola led Washington with 27 points. She had 14 of the Huskies' initial 20 points. Gioconda Mendiola had 15 points, while Andrea Lalum had 14 and Jill Bell 11.

Arizona increased its lead to 22 after the Wildcats scored the final four points of the first half, and five straight after intermission, to build a 46-29 lead. Grzyb extended the advantage to 73-46 with a three-pointer several minutes later.

Washington made a 20-7 run to close to within 80-66 with 4:07 remaining, but another Grzyb outside jumper halted the comeback bid.

Mendiola's three-pointer with 11:43 remaining in the first half tied the game at 18-18 before Arizona scored 10 straight points.

Arizona (9-2, 1-0) scored on either lay ups or offensive rebounds during the span. Washington's points were more difficult to come by, with the Huskies (7-3, 0-1) never warming up much from their 30 percent field goal shooting at halftime.
